Alfresco 2006 Roadmap - An Interview with John Newton, Co-Founder and CTO of Alfresco

Monday, August 21st, 2006

In this Podcast I discuss an introduction the Alfresco 2006 Roadmap with John Newton, Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer of Alfresco.

Specifically we discuss:

  • What are the main objectives for 2006?
  • When some people say content management they mean Web Content Management. What is the focus here?
  • ECM has many different definitions. What do you see as the big areas of ECM?
  • When you look at those areas they are often a platform for developing content centric applications. What is our focus here?
  • When you compare ECM to other areas of software is has been pretty devoid of core standards. There has been no SQL of content and I know we believe that that has stunted the growth of content management. What are the standards Alfresco is focusing on?
  • Use of standards is one thing but users want standards and performance. One of things we focus on is “Production Ready Open Source”. What are we doing about Enterprise scalability?
  • Collaboration is a key driver in the creation and capture of content. What features are we focusing on here?
  • Administration of content management is very important, particularly in a highly-available or distributed configuration. What are we working in this area?
