We’ve received feedback from a number of you that you are excited to give a Lightning Talk at DevCon but you are not excited about the Ignite format. Maybe the format–slides automatically advance after 20 seconds–was a little ambitious for the first introduction of Lightning Talks to the DevCon program.
So we are now making the Ignite format completely optional. If you choose to use it, you will earn kudos and admiration, but it is not required.
We are going to continue with the plan of using a single laptop, however. So if you are not going with the Ignite format, but you are giving a Lightning Talk that requires slides, you must give those to Richard Esplin before the session. We will not be doing a laptop switch between Lightning Talks.
Also, some of you who have expressed an interest in giving a Lightning Talk have not yet signed up. You need to do so. We need to know how many people are planning on giving talks ahead of time.
Each DevCon currently has two Lightning Talk sessions planned–one for each day. See the schedule for exact times.
