The volume of content being created by people within organizations is constantly increasing. Much of this content will need to be managed and shared. Some contents, i.e. Corporate Records, will need to be managed and controlled for an extended period of time. Each piece of content, document, presentation, spread sheet, etc. may have multiple versions, further increasing the volume of content that needs to be stored. Storing and providing access to all of this content is important but can also be expensive. Companies need comprehensive Content Storage Policies (sometimes known as Information Lifecycle Management (ILM)) to define where content is stored.
Alfresco Enterprise Edition provides companies with dynamic storage based on business policies and lifecycle rules. Companies can define where content is stored and under what conditions it should move. For example: Keep current versions of documents on fast, but expensive, hard drives, but move prior versions to slower, more cost effective, storage mediums. This allows users fast access to the latest content, but still makes available historical content.
Bottom Line: Comprehensive Content Storage Policies allow companies to address the cost associated with storing increasing volumes of content without impacting performance
