Alfresco is an Open Source company and as such Enterprise Customers benefit from the Alfresco Community. Community members, Customers, Certified Partners, and Alfresco, contribute through an Open Process to enhance the Alfresco Enterprise Edition product. While Alfresco develops and certifies the core Alfresco content management solution, partners and other community members make available a whole host of extensions targeted to support specific business applications. Extensions, based on the Alfresco Enterprise Edition, provided by Certified Partners can be made available as part of a consulting engagement or free to download.
An example of a partner contributed extension is the scanning solution that was developed by MicroStrategies. By developing Kofax release scripts that integrate the Kofax high volume paper document scanning solutions with Alfresco, MicroStrategies have extended the capability for Alfresco Enterprise Customers to support high volume production scanning.
