Creating a new Content Store Implementation for CAStor and S3

I recently ran a web presentation where I discussed how to connect Alfresco to Amazon S3. I knew that a prototype connector for Caringo’s CAStor had been developed but was surprised to read this CMS Wire article discussing it.

The idea of connecting an ECM to a virtually infinitely scalable storage cloud is something I’m very excited about and finding that XeniT, an Alfresco and Caringo partner, have published the source code to the Alfresco Forge pleases me to no end.

This code is an excellent followup to my presentation as it exemplifies the key message of my presentation, that being that it is very straightforward to implement new Content Stores with the Alfresco API. I encourage you to take a look at the CAStor implementation and I look forward to seeing implementations into other Content Addressable Storage systems and Cloud Storage services such as Nirvanix.

[...] The main differences with Caringo are that the software runs in userspace on a fairly vanilla Linux server while Caringo’s CAStor is delivered as a completely self-contained Linux software appliance. Additionally that it can be mounted via NFS without requiring a “Content File Server” or use of a REST API (for which there exists a very good Alfresco-CAStor Adapter). [...]
